My kids had a blast playing with the Real World Geometric Shapes! I was also able to lend the set to my son's Preschool class and my daughter's 1st grade class. The teachers both loved it and so did the students. I was really impressed with the quality of the shapes. They were make with hard plastic and after inserting the cardboard, the cover fit perfectly on each piece without falling off. Each item looked so realistic once it was in the shape! My favorites were the cake, the can of soup and the wooden block. After playing with the shapes with my kiddos, they all know the difference between and prism and a pyramid. They still have a little trouble with the long names, but we are working on it! We had fun talking about other things in real life that are the same shape. (a can of Pringles, the game pieces in Trouble etc.) I would recommend the Real World Folding Geometric Shapes to anyone who wants a fun and easy way to learn about 3-D shapes!

Like all other Learning Resources products we've tried in our homeschooling classroom, the Real World Folding Geometric Shapes are high quality, durable, and realistic.

Included in this set/kit are eight common 3-D geometric shape solids, each made of clear plastic:

cube

cylinder

hexagonal prism

rectangular prism

triangular prism

square pyramid

triangular pyramid

cone

Also included are 24, glossy, full-color cardstock inserts which can be folded and placed inside the shapes, secured with a clear plastic side ("door") to hold each in place.

The rectangular prism can be a tent...then a piece of chocolate cake. The cone can be a party hat...and minutes later a Christmas tree. The switching out is easy and the real-world application is self-explanatory for little minds!

My girls were so excited to open and explore this product because of all of the fun nets that came with the shapes. Each shape had a couple of different nets that made the learning process exciting and interactive. As they explored with each shape, they were able to see and talk about why or why not a shape could fit inside the plastic pieces. This resource is perfect for teaching basic 3D shapes to young children, but also great for explaining more advanced features (points, vertices, and edges) to older children. The nets are super durable and make it easy for children to use this for hands-on exploring.

As a former educator, I would highly recommend this product.
