Ok, now to the set. First I must say that I am impressed at the quality for the money. I put this together a few weeks out of fear that there might be a part missing and I would need to contact the seller (there is only one seller for this set and they have a good reputation for handling stuff like this). There were no missing parts. Anyway, I have a prime account and got the set in 2 days with free shipping.
Assembly: I know nothing about drums and this is a pretty easy set to assemble 15-20 minutes I would say is average assembly time. The main task is assembling the bass drum. The Tom drum and snare come assembled. There is a key included to tighten the screws (this is the only tool you need to assemble the set). I did have trouble fitting one screw (threads) but just switching screws around fixed that. The instructions are minimal, but do describe assembly of the bass drum and everything else is pretty much self explanatory.
The finished product is nice. The drums are real wood the color's finish has a nice luster. I was at a big box toy store and this set is on par in terms of size/scale as the largest one at the toy store.
Tips: I was a bit confused why there seemed to be no snare wire for the snare drum and was about to order one online, but when trying to figure out how to attach it I noticed a knob on the side of the snare and simply tightened and adjusted it as the wires were already inside the drum (just left loose for shipping). I did buy a set of drum sticks as the ones included seemed small for a 9 year old, better for a 5 to 7 year old.
So all in all I pretty happy with the set, everything for about a c note it feels like a bargain. Better instructions would help, but this scores high on the value meter.

Bought this item for my young grandsons. They love it, not so sure about the parents. We had some problems with pieces missing or broken upon delivery , but the vendor was very apologetic and responsive. We bought this drum set for our 4 1/2 year old. I have to say, it was really a wonderful set for the money. The sound quality isn't too bad. Perfect size for a 4 1/2 year old. The stool is included which, with many sets, it was not. Thus far, it is very durable. Not only has my 4 1/2 year old son been pounding away on it but our 10 yr old and 8 yr old sons have been contributing their percussive talents as well (haha). It is delivered in a relatively small box for all that was in it. The assembly wasn't bad either. It was put together in less than an hour on Christmas Eve by my husband and I. This set was bought for my grandson and it looks just like real drums, not cheap plastic or any thing like that and they have a good sound to them... I thought that it was a good buy for the money ...
