I'm a lot older than 13 and I bought this toy for myself, and am having fun showing it to adults and children. The package comes with four objects ( spyder, frog, dice and fuzzy red ball)that range in size from 0.5 to 1.0 inch. You put one of these objects at the center of the bottom hemisphere, and replace the top hemisphere, which has an opening above it , and the object appears floating just above the opening. When I ask adults to touch the spyder, they are hesitant to do so, even though they know it is just an image. It is that real looking. It is a great item to have for the coffee table. The principle behind it is described in the short instruction sheet. The image does not appear if you look at it directly from the side or downwards. The viewing angle must be within a certain cone, but still, it is a fun thing to have and it is educational as well.
