This is just what it appears to be, a wooden tambourine with metal discs. It is sturdy and durable (it was a gift for a 3 year old) and sounds just like the real thing. I think it is a little smaller than a standard size (not sure, I'm not an expert) but perfect for kids. It was nice to find a 'real' instrument I could get my daughter instead of all these plastic toy instruments you find everywhere. I highly recommend it.

I bought this for my year old grandson for Christmas. He is now 18 months old and still loves this tambourine. He plays it when music is on television or radio as well as when he is making his own music. It entertains him thoroughly. He gets engrossed in it along with his maracas. This is real wood made as well as full sized ones are made. Excellent quality, good sound (not tinny like some kid's tambourines are.) If you want a well made musical instrument that kids love, this is the one. You won't be sorry.

When I removed the tambourine from the package, the pins holding the cymbals fell out. They apparently were not affixed to the wood in any way. The pins are thin and about an inch long. I ordered two tambourines (for twins) and both had this problem. Certainly a choking hazard for children.

Our 2 yr old loves it! We have sent it to daycare with him for music day and he plays with it a lot. No issue with the pins like other reviews said. Happy I decided to go ahead and get it.
