I chose the innotab 3s over the leappad ultra for a few reasons. Price. Not only is it less than a leappad for the unit but the downloadable games are less as well. Ability to use an sd card. As I just received the innotabs yesterday, I have not had a chance to put music and video on an sd card. I don't foresee any issues there. The rotating camera. Just personal preference, but my kids like that better. The kid connect messaging. My 5 year old gets a kick out of this.
Why I'm regretting this purchase...if you thought the wifi would enable you to cut ties with a computer, think again. For whatever reason vetch ties you to their Learning Lodge software. Simply put, this is a horrid piece of software. A quick google search will reveal that the issues with this software have been on going. I expect more. I'm trying to give you my money to purchase content for my kids impatient to play with their new toy. What I got...nothing but a screen stuck on loading.
From what I've read, I suspect vtech's servers were overwhelmed with the release of the 3s. Still, I expect more when I plunked down $100 per toy for each of my kids plus spending more to purchase content. The only work around I found was the wish list feature. If you have the patience to scroll through the content available to purchase on the innotab, it will email you a list of 5 or so items the child would like to purchase. This will give you a browser link delivered to your email circumventing the Learning Lodge software. From there, it is fast and easy to choose which items from the wish list you approve to buy and checkout.
I have no idea why vetch does not make their complete catalog of content web browser based. I tried to purchase content at 7pm, 10pm, and 9 am. Every single time, the Learning Lodge software is stuck on loading. If I had purchased the innotabs from a local store, I would be returning it.
08/14/2013 12:25pm I opened Learning Lodge on my work computer which runs Windows 7. I had no loading issues. I did find that when I opened it, I needed to update Learning Lodge. This leads me to two conclusions....Either Learning Lodge was updated some time today and worked out the kinks and/or it just doesn't play nice with my Mac at home.

I have a three-year-old daughter and she is always trying to grab her brother and sister's iPads. I tried to let her play some learning games on mine and she wound up sitting on it and cracking the screen. After that experience I was thrilled to get the opportunity to test out the Innotab 3S from Vtech. Its a sturdy handheld tablet designed just for kids and its tough enough to put up with all they can throw at it. Right off the bat, I can tell you ours has been dropped, thrown and kicked more than once and its none the worse for wear, but lets get on to talking about some of the other features. The InnoTab tablet comes complete with twenty different games and activities already installed. There are a stories that can be read aloud, coloring pages, and games. Two of the games my kids really liked were the Magic Beanstalk came where you raise the beans and watch them grow, like a virtual pet. They also enjoyed the H2O maze game where you lead the water drop through the maze. You have to be careful not to touch the sponges or you'll get absorbed and lose a life. My youngest also loved the coloring pages. There are several different pages and you can do them over and over again. These are just a few examples.
In addition to the games that are already installed, you can also go online to the Vtech store to find hundreds of other game options. You get one game for free with your initial purchase. My daughter picked out a Beach Day with Cody and Cora. This game teaches counting skills and is perfect for preschool age. It has her count shells and seagulls, all things that are familiar to her since we live at the Jersey Shore. Like all the games, if you make a mistake, the game encourages you to try again and when you get it right, there's lots of cheering and excitement that really builds confidence in little ones. This game features generic characters, but you can also pick from many of your favorite personalities including Dora the Explorer, Bubble Guppies, Thomas & Friends and tons more. These games will cost a little more, but I was lucky enough to snag a Dora game on sale for only $7.
In addition to all the fun games, there is still way more this system has to offer. There is a built in Wi-Fi system you can connect to the internet to download right onto the tablet. There is a camera, you can film videos, listen to music on an MP3 player, and pretty much everything you'd find on a adult tablet, just made simple to use so kids can handle it independently. The touch screen is receptive and the battery is rechargeable which is a really big plus.
The InnoTab® 3S Wi-Fi Learning App Tablet is perfect for home and travel. You can take with you in the car, to the doctor's office, or just about anywhere. The best part is that while your kids are having fun they are also learning. Every single game from Vtech is educational. There is no violence, no mindless activity--just reading and counting and challenging kids cognitive abilities. It challenges them again and again and can continue to do so well into their grade school years. Whether you are trying to teach a preschooler basic letters and numbers or encourage an older child to improve their reading skills, you are bound to find something for everyone with the InnoTab.

I bought this Innotab3S to replace my son's Innotab2S and it is great. He is 5 years old, starts kindergarden this fall, and can already read and write basic sentences; I attrubute this to the Innotab as well as our parenting style. This Innotab protects my investment in my iPad because my son prefers to play with his Innotab instead of my iPad. I had trouble upgrading the Learning Lodge Navigator application on my PC, but that is because I had an Innotab2S previously and had to download the latest software for the website. Tech support was very helpful (and free). It was very easy to transfer all the applications, photos, videos, and other information from the Innotab2S to the new Innotab3S.Honest reviews on VTech InnoTab 3S The Wi-Fi Learning Tablet, Blue
All 3 of my kids love this tablet, and they range in age from 3-10 years old. It's very educational for my 3 and 8 year olds, and my 10 year old loves to play the games on it also.My favorite things about the InnoTab 3S:
It's rechargeable. Seriously, all kids' electronics should be!
WiFi. Originally I thought it would be useless for us, since it's for our 3 year old, but we've used it quite a bit due to the next 2 items:
VTech Kid Connect. An app that lets kids send texts and stickers to their parents' smart phones through an app or sending them to another InnoTab 3S. Even better, YOU set up who your child is allowed to text with, so it's completely safe!
Kid Safe Browsing. VTech has allowed specific age-appropriate websites , and you can approve additional websites, again so it's safe.
The memory is expandable with an SD card! You're not limited to the size you buy :-)
Apps are reasonably priced. Your receive a free app download when you first set it up, and I was shocked that I had over 170 apps to choose from! Not just one or two! Once you start paying for apps they're extremely affordable, lots around $3.99!
I don't know how it'll hold up in the long run, since we've had it about a month, but it's been dropped several times and had things spilled on it and it still works great!
I was provided an InnoTab 3S to review.
