I bought this for my 21 month-old daughter who loves gingerbread houses thanks to our frequent reading of the old story "Hansel and Gretel" and the witch's gingerbread house pictures. I also collect gingerbread houses now and wanted one my daughter was allowed to play with. The house is so cute -really a neat item for Christmas. However, the door that opens to get the pieces out is a bear to open for a 21 month-old. There is just the slightest indentation where the door meets the house and even I have a hard time fitting a nail or finger under the indentation to lift open the flap. So, what I did is tape a "tongue" of sorts sticking out of the door (I taped a small piece of cardboard to the inside back of the door and folded it under the door so it stuck outside the house like a pull tab/tongue hanging out). I had some gingerbread themed gift labels and stuck one of those on the piece of cardboard hanging outside the house so it looks like it somewhat belongs. It took me all of 30 seconds to rig up this handle. This is NOT a big enough reason to pass on the house but fair warning that the door is hard to open for little ones. A piece of yarn or cardboard taped to the inside back of the door, allowing it to hang out of the door so they can pull it open with ease, may be required depending on your child's fine motor skills. Otherwise a great item.

My kids love this gingerbread house. It's a good spin on the classic insert the shape game. The candy pieces are cute. This helps children learn shapes, colors, coordination. My 1 year old and 3 year old like to play with this.
