The toy is exceptionally well-built and very sturdy; a kid-friendly design. The games are narrated by C3PO and backed by some rather rudimentary Star Wars background music. When you get answers right you get rewarded verbally and with graphics, while R2D2's Red Light flashes on his head. If you like Star Wars collectible toys, this is a must-have addition to your collection.

We got this for our 2 year old before a long multi-airplane trip, and it was worth every penny. It's a lot smaller than it looks in the picture, but was perfect for his little hands, he likes to open it and close it and hear the little theme songs that accompany a number of the buttons. He could also play some of the games, mainly the "we've lost a letter, can you find it" game, but also the basic "can you find the shapes" game. There's some stuff about adding and subtracting asteroids that's way over his head, but that didn't matter too much. In any event, he was totally obsessed with it during our weeklong trip and two 14 hour airplane trips, and it was totally worth it for that. Now that we've been home for two months he still plays with it for 5 or 10 minutes a day, it's particularly handy when you're trying to pack a bag or something and need him to be busy for a few minutes. So: Worth $20 in every sense of the word. We've probably dropped it 200 times, and it's doing fine. Off the main point, I have to say my favorite thing about it at this point is that our kid now says things like: "That's correct" and "asteroid" in a CP30 accent, which is hilarious. Overall, it's kind of an odd toy, the technology feels very Tron-era 1980's, but if your little one likes "computers" and button-mashing and you have love in your heart for campy 1980's tech this thing is awesome.Best Deals for Oregon Scientific R2D2 Junior Laptop
My 4 year old son has wanted this toy for months and Santa finally brought it! He LOVES it. Some things are below him, some above, but it's par for the course with video games. Great little take-along computer... LOVE the C3PO voice!Honest reviews on Oregon Scientific R2D2 Junior Laptop
My twins are almost 2 y.o. This laptop is great for my girl twin, who knows most of the alphabet, but it is near useless (for now) for my boy twin, who is not as verbally advanced as his sister. If Oregon Scientific had put in the same feature they put in the Barbie Jr laptop, this laptop would have been much more useful to both my children with their different levels of learning. The Barbie laptop tells you what the letter is when you press on that key (e.g. "W is the first letter in the word WISH"). On this R2D2 laptop, it just keeps repeating "Please select a mission" when you press on a letter when a game has not been selected. For it to be at all functional, you need to first select a mission (I suppose I could eventually train my kids to do this consistently on their own) and then the easiest game involves finding a letter: C3PO asks you to find the letter "X" and you have to find it -hard to do if you don't have a basic knowledge of the alphabet already. On the PRO side, I love that it is C3PO talking to you and it makes me laugh in my head every time I hear him say "oh dear" or "if you won't be needing me, I'll shut down for a while."
