This looks like it would be great but it only comes with six monkeys which is what the picture shows so this isn't a surprise. However, with six monkeys and six holes to place the monkeys into, that is all my children do with this toy. If there were more monkeys than holes I think the children playing with this toy would understand that there are several ways of placing the monkeys on the tree. This is not a very stimulating toy for my children unfortunately. However, this is the only toy we have been unsatisfied with from Plan Toys so I can't complain. Maybe with time my children will experiment more with this one. As for now we have a tree lines perfectly with six monkeys.
Update: One of our monkeys lost an arm. Not certain what would be the best glue to attach the plastic arm to the wooden body.

instead is an introduction to math and physics concepts. For e.g. children learn the one-to-one association (first math concept) while trying to balance the branch by fitting a monkey in the same hole on opposite ends. They learn that one monkey on the furthest hole needs to be balanced by three monkeys on the closest hole in the opposite end (or two monkeys in the middle hole of the opposite branch). This introduces children to the way that gravity, weight, and length of the lever interact. The toy is perfectly designed to illustrate these concepts. The only issue I found with it is that the peg where the branch stands could be a little more secure so that the branch would not fall off easily. In addition, the base could be a bit more sturdy. These issues are only minor, and for the educational value, are quite negligible. Buy it!
