First off, this TOY is great for young kids.
-Children who are old enough to appreciate this toy to about 8 years will find it thoroughly entertaining.
-Children between 9 and 12 will find it pretty fun, but will realize how limited it really is
-Children 13+ will find it somewhat fun, but won't spend hours playing with it.
The following terms will not apply to kids who already play real guitar. Those who play real guitar (such as myself) will find it pretty disappointing.
Before i get into the stuff that might make you want to not buy it, let me praise it's goodness first. This guitar is awesome for really young kids who can't play guitar yet, but want to rock out with older relatives who can play. Because it is so simple, it allows children to quickly make really cool, simple songs with a guitar that weighs as much as a child's running shoe. It is SO MUCH better than those cheap light-up guitars that play fake-sounding "rock" songs. With this, you can play along to real songs, and you can chords on real guitar models. But, alas, if your child is old enough to realize that real guitars are actually a bajillion times better, read on:
My younger early-teen brother bought this today, and found it not to be what he thought it would be. All you can do on the guitar is learn to play rhythm (which is really good) and play chords. The only thing that stinks about the chords is that you push a single fret button instead of actually forming the chords as you would on a guitar.
Now, being a young adult and out of touch with the toy world, I thought this would allow you to play individual strings and make REAL chords. That is not what this toy will let your kids do. The guitarist will "learn" chords by pressing a certain number of frets, and then strumming (or tapping) on the strings. It will play a very accurate chord. You can also, as previously stated, play along to popular songs' chords by strumming in time. On this particular guitar, you will get "Sweet Home Alabama, My Maria, and So Much Cooler Online". It actually gets really boring really fast if you know how to play real guitar (like my bro and I do). But, still, I actually am having more fun with it than him. It is fun to just mess around with, but older kids will probably not make this their favorite toy.
I do have to praise the guitar for being a pioneer. I predict that in about 5 years, these Paper Guitars will have the functions that us guitarists really want. It's like the Wii: A pioneer with so-so graphics and a library full of games that are basically a waste of natural resources and Wii-tech (Carnival Games, Storybook Time, etc.) that has been overcome by the PS3's wand. Invest in this guitar, and you provide funds and competition so even better ones will be made.
********IN A NUTSHELL!!!!!!*********: If you have kids who haven't tasted the sweet glory of real guitar, or if they just like to pretend to be rockstars and would rather not air-guitar their way to fame, this is definitely for them. If you have kids who have tasted the sweet glory of real guitar, or kids who will most likely find out in about 15 minutes that you can't do much other than make cool rhythms, do a little karaoke, and that they will be forced to find the actual chord formations for their real guitars if they want to play their jams, then proceed with caution. Don't pay more than 20 for this.

These are really cool. The only problem I had when ordering them, was finding out what songs were on the guitars. That took a lot of time to jump from web site to web site to try to figure them out. Some of the songs on these guitars are really not ideal for the younger age group. My son is 12, but there were still some songs that I didn't feel comfortable with him hearing much less playing. After much research, I did get titles and was able to order what I thought was appropriate for my child. You won't learn much of anything about playing a real guitar, but this has put to rest his desire for the real thing-----for now anyway. They are pretty sturdy, there is a hard plastic frame behind the guitar and short of trying to break them apart, I believe they are a decent value. I know one thing for sure. He has enjoyed the one he has gotten so far. He'll stand in the room and play it and bounce his head like he's doing a real concert. He's had so much fun with them. I've purchased a paper jams drum also and his sister enjoys trying to play along with the drums. Great on fun value and price value. Just do some research about the music.Best Deals for Wow Wee Paper Jamz Guitar Series I - Style 1
My 3 year old loves this paper jamz guitar. I chose the country one because I did not want worry about getting one with questionable lyrics. Overall a lot of fun for the little guy and his daddy.Honest reviews on Wow Wee Paper Jamz Guitar Series I - Style 1
Well, for what it is it's pretty cool. Durable and novel, the guitar is pretty sharp. However, I'm disappointed that each song is only about 1 minute and 20 seconds long. What's up with that?
