My son got this for his second birthday from his grandma, and at first I was skeptical. It seemed like a toy for a much younger kid! But he Loooooooves it! He's old enough to not only sort the shapes, but to open and close the clasp on the side, and pick it up and carry it around like a little briefcase. He quickly learned he had to get all the shapes perfectly into their spots in order to get it to close. We use it to teach the basic shapes (circle, triangle and square, though my husband likes to confuse the situation by using the proper three-dimensional shape names instead) and colors -it's not so good for teaching animals, because they're distorted into the shapes. We also use it as a "go-toy", because it's convenient to take with you, durable, and it's easy to make sure you have all the pieces when you're ready to leave. And he can use the blocks with his other blocks to stack or line them up. Overall, a surprisingly engaging toy for a 2-year-old boy!

This toy was much bigger and heavier than I expected. The lock on the side of the case is heavy duty and too difficult for my 19-month old to open. She has no problem with lots of other clasps and buttons. The individual blocks are also kinda disappointing. A few have interactive features (like shaking sounds) but most are fairly boring. My daughter played with this a bit when she first got it but I don't expect it to have staying power. Simple stacking blocks or a traditional shape sorter would be a better investment. I suspect I'll donate this to our local playroom as it takes up quite a bit of space and just isn't rewarding enough for inquisitive minds.

This kept my son's attention for about 2 minutes. The only value in the blocks is the shape sorting feature, but its really weird that the (correct) shapes don't fit IN their counterpart they just sit on top. It's not like a traditional shape sorter that you 'drop' the triangle in the triangle hole. Also, the 'activity' function on the blocks is super lame. More than half of the blocks don't DO anything they're just hunks of plastic. The ones that rattle sound like they have one bean inside and it's suddenly a "shaker". The only caveat I'll give is that my son is just one month shy of a year old. Maybe he'll have more fun wit it when he's much older. I usually 'buy ahead' a little bit to help keep him entertained. That didn't work this time.

A different take on the standard shape sorter toy that is bright & colorful. The animal faces on each block is another learning feature for little ones. Very durable and great carrying case too.

This is a shape sorter, blocks, and an activity toy all in one. There's a roller, spinner, squeaker, mirror, and more to keep little ones occupied. My kids love this toy.
