We were moving across country so I wanted an interactive map for my 5 1/2 year old daughter. It is nice and small so it was a good size for traveling. However the first thing I noticed after I put the batteries in was it was very loud with no way to adjust the sound. I had to put a piece of packing tape over the speaker and it was much better. But of course, my daughter really did not like there to be something on her map! Eventually it was removed, but in a car it was just too loud. The questions it asks are rather difficult as both my wife and I who are well educated could not answer many of the questions. So I think the questions are too difficult for the age it is targeting. In addition when you missed a question, it did not give you the correct answer, so how do you learn? As far as a map, it was nice for my daughter to follow along with us as we went across the country and the game did keep her occupied. However she had to ask us the answers many we did not know. It would ask questions like Kansas is the 39th largest state based on population; true or false? Really who knows that. It would be very specific questions and then true or false. It did not give you the answer after you got it right or wrong. It would have been nice if it had given some background on the state more geared to a five year old and not a statistician. One other problem was the batteries that came with it only lasted about 1.5 hours. Really, why bother putting batteries so poor in the package. Either put good batteries in or don't bother. It is just that many more batteries that end up in the landfills.
I am not sure if I would buy it again or not. I think I would look for something different.

I read the other reviews about there being no volume control and the voice being slightly irritating--I'd have to agree. However, it is educational and the adults had some fun with it at christmas.

We purchased this for my son's 3rd Birthday. Our family is scattered throughout the world and US so he's having a great time learning where Nana, Aunts, Uncles, etc live. The toy isn't quite as sturdy as I had hoped but time will tell how it holds up. Also, as with many US map toys, some of the smaller East Coast states must be selected outside their actual location. Overall, we are very happy with this purchase.

My granddaughter really enjoyed playing with this present on Christmas morning. I was a little scared that it was broken, at first, but a fresh set of batteries kept it going.
