Got this for son's 5th birthday (he is in to pirates), he loved the "chest" it came in and had great fun with it. The first time he dropped it the glass lens came loose and started rattling around. Then the other end (that you put your eye to) has a piece that easily unscrews and comes off, without it, there is just a metal tube to look into and it can get stuck inside the bigger pieces when the scope is collapsed because the end piece is what keeps it from going all the way inside the other pieces. Overall I think it is a reasonable toy but not very well made! The box is great, he can stash stuff in it for years to come. Oh and naturally there is not a great magnification on it though it is sufficient for a child.

My daughters are in a pirate phase, and this looked interesting. Very well made and a very nice looking piece. It really works (although not powerful, like I said... its mini)

Once they get bored with it I will grab it and put it on a shelf as a nice ornamental piece.

In a time where 99% of toys are plastic and cartoony, this spyglass is a great find! We gave it to my 4 year old nephew along with some other realistic pirate gear, and he loved it! It obviously doesn't have great optics, but it does actually zoom and extends like one would imagine, standing on the bow of a pirate ship, looking for victims. The real wooden box is an added bonus.

The popular plastic talking Jake telescope is $18 at Target. So for half the price, you get a more authentic, obviously way cooler toy that is sure to inspire better imagination, and almost definitely will hold up better than the plastic equivalent. I think kids can tell the difference between bright plastic and something that actually seems real. I know my 2-year old wants to play with our stuff more than her "toy" equivalent.

The telescope was better than I expected for the money. Shipping was timely, and I have seen plastic nonworking models sell for more. I bought this for my son's pirate things... It was a great purchase. Highly recommend.
