When I saw this Tag Jr. Thomas Book was finally available for sale ($10.99), I got it for my 3-year-old son, who LOVES Thomas. I have many books in the Tag Jr. series and thought he would enjoy this one. I'm surprised to say he still prefers some of his other Tag Jr. books (Curious George, Dora, ABC Orchestra, Ni Hao Kai-Lan) more than this one. There are one to two sentences on every other page and just Percy and Thomas are featured. Thomas is picked to carry cargo that Percy wants to carry, so it deals with emotions and friendship. If your child is at that stage of learning, I'm sure this book will be educational in that regard. My son just liked to tap Thomas and Percy with the Tag Jr. Reader and turn the page. I think some of the other jr. books I mentioned before are more engaging because they have more elements on the page. This book just has a sentence or two, nothing else. It's a nice addition to any collection, but if you are just rushing to buy this book solely because it features Thomas, you might want to wait until it's cheaper or until your child is ready for such concepts as empathy and concern for other's emotions.

I am the biggest "grade inflation" reviewer, and this is probably the 2nd negative review I've ever given but this book was disappointing and I really don't recommend it. My 2.5 year old LOVES Thomas the Train, so I thought this would be a big hit (as she loves the Tag Jr., too). I think the problem is that the story is too abstract and the pages are too similar. Thomas is worried his friend is going to feel sad because Thomas was selected to transport the band instead of him, so he finds a way to make it so his friend can do it. This was a concept that I don't think my 2.5 year old understood and definitely they could have picked a more captivating theme for a book about trains (a rescue mission or a race). I respect they were trying to develop empathy skills, etc. and my daughter did learn the word "worried" from the book and was interested in the train's "worried" face -but I think this book could have been better geared toward its audience. The pictures were also a little dark, too. The train sounds were fun. It was just boring and not worth the ten bucks when there are so many better Tag Jr books out there.

The voices are not of Thomas and Percy; they sound the same. My son knows their voices so he doesn't like the book because he can't tell who is talking.
