My 3 year-old grandson had been asking for a violin for Christmas "like his Pop's." I looked at several violins on line before deciding on this one. I was not disappointed. Looks just like a real one. Size is perfect for a 3 year old. He was so happy when he opened this present. He started to play it right away and chose it over a lot of other toys he had received to continue playing. It's great that you can actually play songs by pushing the button. He thinks he's a mistro. I would recommend this toy -worth the money.

I got this for my 2.5 year old and he fell in love with it. The strings are metal and so is the 'horse hair' on the bow. Once the two metals touch e sound goes off, there is also a small button you can push to sound the music without the bow, which is good because my son has already lost the bow! :( my only complaint about this is that the bow isn't sturdier, my son was easily able to bend the plastic, so even before he lost it the string on the bow was no linger taut because I couldn't straighten it back out.
So great pretend toy, to inspire musical interest!

I know I can't expect a lot for a $12.00 toy but the sound is pretty awful so we took the batteries out and put on real violin music and he pretends to play along. I like this toy violin because it looks like a real one and has strings

It didn't always work perfectly, it stopped playing music after the first day but my 2 year old nephew had played with it non-stop all day. It began playing music again the next morning... He loved this violin. He carried it around for five days before breaking the bow. He liked it so much, I've ordered a replacement. Most of the complaints about this toy seem to revolve around "adult sensibilities": too loud, bad aesthetics, etc. The only legitimate complaint, in my opinion, is that it doesn't always work the way it's supposed to. None of the complaints mentioned seemed to trouble my nephew and, since it is a toy and was purchased for his enjoyment, I'm completely satisfied.
