One thing my son has enjoyed since he was very young is doing "Calendar and Weather Time" every morning with me. A great way to discuss the date and weather for the day is with the Funky Monkey Forecast(tm) Magnetic Daily Weather Set from Learning Resources.

It is easy to set up and is different than most calendars because the children get to really get involved because they get to dress the monkey for the weather! However, the downfall is that you must have a magnetic surface for this set to stick.

My Students are big fans of this set. It's colorful, fun, and completely hands-on. This helps with many of my early learners. They love knowing that our circle time at school start with our white board to talk about the date and the weather of the day. If it's a snowy day, the kids clearly point out the monkey needs boots and a coat .This also allows each of my children in class to have hands on time at the white board during the week. I love that they children can use each part of the set throughout the year.

Each day for homeschool preschool we like to begin with a Bible story, prayer, a movement song, the pledge of allegiance and then calendar activities. We go over the day (today, yesterday, tomorrow), the month, and also the weather. The Funky Monkey Forecast(tm) Magnetic Daily Weather Set is such a big help with these calendar activities especially when you are homeschooler.

This weather set from Learning Resources® is the magnets only. You need to use your own white board to write the date. We punched out the magnets which was sometimes difficult for my daughter to help with. But these are heavy duty magnets so I am thankful. My daughter has fun deciding which magnets to use for the day. Depending on the weather you can dress the Funky Monkey in clothing and accessories and for a girl like mine, that is heaven. Bright colored, durable magnets make calendar activity time quite fun. Getting her to move on to her lessons is my only hurdle.

First I wanted to share why the product gets 4 stars instead of 5. This is because it comes with so many pieces, but doesn't come with a way to store those pieces when not in use. This can be fixed with a gallon size zip up plastic bag, though.

I think this product is fantastic for helping kids understand that the weather can impact our day, and especially how we dress. It also helps with vocabulary for the days of the week and months of the year.

Perhaps the way that using this product has impacted us in the most unexpected way, though, is with learning to dress oneself. After dressing the monkey appropriately, my daughter will then go to her room and dress herself appropriately. It has made a big difference in how seasonally appropriate her outfit choices are!

Overall, great product! I did receive a complimentary kit for review, and am sharing my honest thoughts.
