I am a huge fan of LeapFrog products and so far we haven't bought any we were disappointed with or that our son didn't enjoy immensely, but 100 Hoops seems to be overpriced for what you receive. It's not a horrible first try for LeapFrog's first venture into sports toys, but there are better options out there for basketball hoops for children of this age range.

The basketball hoop itself is very small, which is nice for 2-3-year-olds but I can't see an 8-year-old playing with this as the age recommendation suggests. The backboard is very small, almost the exact size of a standard notebook. The hoop is also very small, no more than 6 inches in diameter, and the ball is about the right size for a young toddler to hold in the palm of one hand. Everything about the size suggests that it's a toddler toy, but it teaches advanced counting by multiples, and I don't know any toddlers who are ready to do that!

The quality is what you would expect from a LeapFrog toy on the actual hoop and digital display panel. Very durable and well made. But the backboard that slips into a groove on the display panel is just cardboard. Not your average flimsy cardboard, but cardboard nonetheless and fairly easily damaged. If the cardboard backboard is ruined, it's only a cosmetic loss because you will still be able to mount the toy as normal and it won't affect functionality at all. But it's still not what you would expect from a high quality company like LeapFrog.

The sound quality is exceptional as well, as is normal with LeapFrog toys. There's lots of cheering and realistic sound effects and the numbers are crisp and clear when announced. The ability to learn to count to 100 in either English or Spanish is also a plus, but still not enough to convince me that this toy is worth

Overall, the counting feature is a nice learning bonus which is something no other basketball hoop that I have ever seen has even come close to, but for the size and the fact that it has no stand of it's own and most likely has to be kept indoors, you would be better off going with a traditional no frills hoop for the price.

My three year old nephew loved this toy immediately. It's been a month that he has had it and its a hot favorite, with him as well as my brother-in-law. My sister says that though my nephew doesnt pay too much attention to the learning part, but she figures that it must be seeping in somewhere. It was easy enough to hang on the back of a chair or in off a bench in the park. It seems the durability is questionable, especiallly of the little machine which speaks a bit annoyingly and keeps score.

My son is six years old and is liking this game for short periods of time. It will go over a door or on a door knob. For a six year old, the door is a bit high, the door knob is a bit low. However, he makes due, and plays it every few days for 10 minutes or so. I didn't really expect more than that so we are happy with it. He is not real into the educational part of it counting by 5's, 10's, 2's, or in Spanish, but this added componant is great. It "sneaks" in learning.

Honest reviews on LeapFrog 100 Hoops Basketball Counting Game

This is a pretty good product for my 1 year old. He is standing and starting to walk, so this is nice to hang on a doorknob to "exercise" doing those things. He likes dropping the ball in the hoop and pushing the button on the backboard. He hangs on the rim sometimes as he is trying to stand or bending down to pick up the ball, and it has bent slightly but overall seems like it is very durable.

I also like this toy because it is actually something that can be fun to play with for me. We play together a little bit as he likes to roll/throw the ball back and forth. And when he is playing with something else I can pass time taking shots from around his toy room.

I bought this toy for my 3 year old daughter because she loves to count and loves to play with balls. As a typical 3 year old, her attention span lasts for so long so she doesn't always play with it, but when she does she likes to count along with it. She knows how to press the button in the hoop that triggers the counting, so she doesn't always use the ball. She know how to count to 20. Since this toy has options to score up to 10, 20, 50, or 100 points, I'm hoping it will help her learn how to count higher. It also has a Spanish language feature which I think is great. You can also choose for the numbers to count sequentially or in reverse.
