Buy Vilac Wooden Maracas

Thought I was paying extra for a European wooden toy, made in France with good labor and environmental practices, according to EU safety standards. Turns out these are made in China. They are nice enough, but I could get something just as nice, made in China, for half the price. Second time this has happened with Vilac "French" toys, so I'm not going to be buying from them anymore.

UPDATE: Bumping my rating from three to four stars, since I've had the chance now to compare these to the maracas from Melissa & Doug Band in a Box The Vilac maracas are sturdier, the wood is heavier and less easily dented, the paint is *much* more durable, and the sound is vastly superior. A much better product, for sure. I was mistaken when I wrote that the Vilac maracas were no different than other mass-market, made-in-China versions.

These are a beautiful pair of maracas. I'm sure you can find cheaper pairs (these cost TWENTY bucks), but these look lovely and appear to be sturdy. I note the sturdiness because these were purchased for small children to play with, and I've had experience in the past with cheap plastic party maracas breaking easily and beads spilling out everywhere. Not something you want to happen with small children around.

Bought these for my son's first birthday and he absolutely loves them! I am most impressed with their durability, as evidenced by the lack of wear-and-tear from a toddler who likes to throw things.
