Some games meant to be educational and enjoyable at the same time, have too heavy an emphasis on education, and no fun, but this is not. This is very enjoyable and educational at the same time! My little girl asks to play it all the time.

Twenty years ago,we bought this game for our older son when he was 7. In his toddler years he showed an interest in counting, as well as in board games. We soon sought out games that would blend his interests with his skills. "Presto Change-O" became a favorite. His math skills grew, and his ability to grasp the concepts needed to make change, using the play money, soared. In fact at the age of 8, he actually got a job at a local farmers market. His job was to make change for the numerous customers, as well as help with several other tasks.To this day, my husband, son and I credit "Presto Change-O" will helping to develop and fortify our son's math and commerce skills. Twenty years after mastering this wonderful game, he is a successful business man.

This game is so nice. It is actually fun to play and all that making change does make your kids really GET making change FAST! The problem is, it takes FOREVER to play like upwards of 2.5 hours. I made my kids do all their change themselves, so maybe that's why it took us so long. But the whole point of buying this game is the educational value, so making the change for your kids would be pointless. I tried to tweak the game so that it would take less time, but if you do that you lose a TON of the educational value, since in order to have exactly the types of money needed to win the game, the kids really have to think through making change. I am still glad I bought it, but I will not get as much use out of it as I hoped. If the game took 25 minutes I would do it once a week. We bought this game 15 years ago when our daughter was five. Immediately I replaced the fake coins with real ones to make the game more fun and to help her learn the difference between a real dime, quarter and a nickel. It's gratifying as a parent to hear your child moan when she has to buy something and to cheer when she gets to babysit. It's a game children can grow into where they gradually take on more responsibility for making change as they get older and start catching on to harder concepts. We often played, just the 2 of us, for 20 minutes before school. We counted money and whoever had more at that point was declared the winner. I even got better at making change. I find myself paying for a $6 item with a ten and a one rather than breaking a ten and being stuck with five one-dollar bills in my wallet. I highly recommend this game. we wanted our son to practice his money skills and to make change and thought this would be a fun way to have him learn. it seems more like a game than a boring math lesson and that is what matters for him.
